January 2012 Moreton Island Report

Happy New Year to all those who read our news, I've had a short stay this week at the island and weather was nice for once.

I've attached photo of burnt out 4wd that caught fire on the Cowan bypass over a week ago and caused the bushfire that is still raging on the island.

To the owners of the 4wd I hope you were insured and managed to get some possessions off.

The island certainly is bare once the fires go through, some tracks were still closed to the northern part of the island yesterday, not sure of status now, best to check with National Parks website before going over.

Fishing was good as usual, plenty of whiting about on western beach and top end of island where I fished.

New eatery and shop has now been opened at Bulwer and certainly looks nice, it's a substantial investment in Bulwer by the Barge company and can only bring more people to the island for holidays....well done to Roz and team.
